Tips for Learning Patterns
General Tips
1) One hand always returns to the hip palm up and closed in a fist.
2) All blocks are done using both hands…there is a dual action.
3) There are only 3 stances in all the patterns from Taegeuk 1 -Taegeuk 4:
Walking stance (short stance)
Front stance (long stance)
Back Stance (L shaped stance)
Pattern Specific Tips
Taegeuk One
a) All stances to the sides are walking stance (short stances).
b) All stances to the front and back are front stance (long stances).

Taegeuk Two
a) All movements to the sides are walking stance followed by front stance (short then long stance), except numbers 13 and 14, which are not followed by a front.
b) All stances to the front and back are walking stance (short stances).

Taegeuk Three
There is a new stance in this pattern called Back Stance (L shaped stance).
a) All movements to the sides are walking stance followed by front stance (short then long stance). In the middle section of the pattern, immediately after the back stance, there is a shift to front stance which is made by moving the front foot forward.
b) All stances to the front and back are walking stance (short stances).
