What Can I Do to Prepare for My Grading?
- The syllabus section of the student handbook manual will show you exactly what you’d be required to do at your grading.
- Go over your new syllabus about two weeks into the new term – this will help you to set a goal for your upcoming training.
- Revise the syllabus about four weeks prior to the grading, paying close attention to which areas you’re confident with and which will need more focus.
- Pattern and self-defence are two areas you may particularly like to go over. Make the most of the time before class starts by grabbing a partner and going through your self-defence or anything else you’re not confident with.
Most people feel very nervous prior to their first grading, this is perfectly normal. Your Instructor would not let you grade if they weren’t confident of your success. If you’re concerned about a particular part of your syllabus the best way to gain confidence is through practice – there is no substitute for knowing that you can do it. Take the time to read through the section below so you’ll know exactly what to expect on the day. A good nights sleep and healthy breakfast the morning of the grading will also help. Remember your water bottle on the day too.
